8th Avenue Construction Starting May 29th

After years in the planning stages, Garden City’s dream of a friendlier landscape is becoming a reality. On May 29, 2018, Naranjo Civil Constructors will start work on the 8th Avenue Realignment Project. Garden City is shifting their portion of 8th Avenue to the west to allow for safer and more convenient parking, sidewalks, signaled crosswalks, trees, pedestrian lighting and more. Businesses will be open and accessible to customers during construction, which is expected to be complete in mid-November.

In the first phase, which will last approximately six weeks, 26th Street will be closed at the Everyday Store on 8th Avenue. Please keep that in mind when planning your travel in the area.

CO Municipal League Recognizes Garden City Mayor and Trustee

Garden City Mayor Lonelle Archuleta and Trustee Fil Archuleta were recognized at the Colorado Municipal League’s Annual Conference in June. The Archuletas received plaques commemorating their commitment to their education as elected officials.

The Colorado Municipal League (CML) believes that municipal elected officials investing time and resources to participate in educational events to increase their knowledge of municipal government and enhance their capacity to lead should be recognized. For this reason, in 1991 the CML Executive Board created an elected officials leadership training program, now known as CML’s MUNIversity.

All elected officials from member municipalities are automatically enrolled in the program, and credits accumulate automatically for each training they attend.

If you see the Archuletas, be sure to congratulate them for their accomplishments!
