June is Bike Month in Colorado

June is Bike Month. Get ready for 2017 Bike to Work Day, June 28.

BTWD-FullArt-v01Colorado is a premier bicycling state. To celebrate bicycling for transportation, fun and health, Colorado has designated each June as Bike Month. At the same time, Colorado joins a nationwide effort to encourage cycling novices and enthusiasts to experience the fun and freedom of safely riding a bike to work, school, errands and recreation.

While there will be many events around the state throughout the month, the highlight of the month is Bike to Work Day when employees leave their cars at home and enjoy bicycling to work. The number of Bike to Work Day participants has risen steadily since 1995, and due to the popularity of bicycling in Colorado that trend is expected to continue this year.

You’re Invited…

On the first and third Tuesdays every month except December, there is a Town Board Meeting. It starts at 7:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend any time, unless the Board decides to go into an Executive Session (that’s rare). You are invited to check the agenda posted here on the website or on the marquee on the west side of the Town Hall to see if there are any issues of interest to you. There are also special meetings from time to time. You can also learn about those meetings on the website. Look for the Agenda link at the bottom of the page or listed under Documents on the right side of the page.

The Town Board consists of your Garden City neighbors. They’d love to see you and hear about your thoughts, concerns or suggestions. Don’t be shy!

Garden City’s Furry Friends

We love dogs! If you haven’t licensed your dog yet, or in the last year, then it’s time to stop by the Town Hall with proof of a current rabies vaccination and the fee. If your dog’s rabies vaccination hasn’t expired since the last time you registered, give us a call and we’ll make sure we have the paperwork. The fee is $4 if your pet has been spayed or neutered and $10 if not. Bring Fido if you like. We’d love to meet him. We take cash, check or credit/debit card.

Registering your dog helps us keep everyone safe, plus we’ll know who to call if your best friend gets loose and is wandering around town. The fine for an unlicensed dog is $25, plus if we don’t know who the dog belongs to, he/she will be impounded at the Humane Society. The impound fees start at $130. We don’t want that to happen, so please make sure your dog is licensed.

Visit the Town Hall page for location, phone number and hours.
