Code Enforcement

Code Enforcement is necessary as our Town grows and all of our buildings become occupied. It is important for everyone to uphold the codes in order to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the community as a whole and also to preserve your property values. If you receive a Notice of Violation from the Town, you will have 10 days to correct the issue for re-inspection. If the issue is not resolved within the 10 days, you will receive a summons to Municipal Court and will appear before the Municipal Judge regarding your violation. Following is a list of code issues that will generate a violation when not adhered to:  Vehicles must be licensed and operable. No dirt or other debris piles are allowed. All weeds must be kept cut close to the ground. Noxious plants and undesirable growths and brush must be controlled or destroyed. No encroachment or obstruction on any street, sidewalk, curb or other public place may exist. Premises must be kept clean and orderly, no trash accumulation. This is a partial list and does not represent the Garden City Code in its entirety. The most important thing to remember is that if you get a Notice of Code Violation from the Code Enforcement Officer, take care of the violation immediately so that the issue does not become a matter for the Courts. If we all work together, our Town will be a desirable and safe little community. Thank you in advance for your diligence regarding the condition of your property.
