Cash, check, money order and credit/debit card payments can be made at the Town Hall.

General citation and court information

Everyone has a court date listed on their citation, but you may be eligible for an automatic reduction in charge and points without going to court. If your citation states that you have a fine and does NOT state ‘court required’, then you can pay any time before your court date and receive the reduction mentioned above. If you cannot afford to pay the fine before the court date, you must appear in court to arrange a payment plan.

If you received a citation for Uninsured Motorist, and you had insurance at the time you were stopped (not five minutes, an hour or a day later), you can present your proof of insurance to the Court Clerk and the charge will be dismissed. Be aware that if your insurance card shows your insurance began on the date you were pulled over, the Court Clerk will call your insurance agent to find out what time you purchased insurance on that day.

Please call the Court Clerk with any questions you may have before your court date. The phone will be forwarded to an answering machine during court, and you will be considered Failure to Appear if you have not made arrangements ahead of time.

If you have been issued a citation with a specified fine, you have two options:

1. Pay the fine
   • at the Town Hall – no fees for credit/debit card use
   • by mail – check or money order – no fees assessed

2. Appear in court on the date shown on your citation.

If your citation states ‘Court Required’, you must appear in court on the date written on your ticket.

It is possible to set up a payment plan if you are unable to pay the entire fine before the court date listed on the citation. If you have made arrangements with the Judge for a payment plan, it is critical that you pay the installment on or before the court date for that month. If you cannot make a payment, you are required to appear in court.
