ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING APRIL AND MAY COURT DATES

The April 9, 2020 court date that was rescheduled to May 7th is now rescheduled to June 9, 2020. If you have already been to court and have a payment due by April 9th, that payment due date has been extended to July 9, 2020. You can still make the payment in before then, but you will not receive a Failure to Appear fee or notice to appear in court if payment is not made before then. If your original court date was May 14, 2020, your new court date is June 11.
If you have recently received a citation and your court date is listed as April 9, 2020 (or May 14th), that court date is now June 9, 2020 (June 11, 2020 if originally May 14th). If your citation is a penalty assessment, meaning you can simply pay the fine, you have until July 9, 2020 (either April, May or June original court date) to pay the fine and still receive a reduction in points, but you MUST CALL US before June 9 to let us know that’s what you plan on doing. If you received a summons, you must appear in court on the date listed above.

You can call in payments with a credit/debit card or checking account information by calling the Town Hall at 970-351-0041.
Mail checks or money orders to Town of Garden City, 621 27th Street Rd, Garden City, CO 80631.
Cash and check payments can be made at the dropbox outside of Town Hall. The box is on the column to the right of the front door. There are envelopes that ask for your name, citation number and other information. If you make a cash payment, please call 970-351-0041 during business hours or text 970-576-4508 to notify us of the cash payment and we will process the payment and email you a receipt immediately (or as soon as we open and receive the payment if received after hours).

If you have been issued a citation with a specified fine, you have two options:
- Pay the fine
- at the Town Hall (come in or call)
- by mail – check or money order
- online – nCourt
- Appear in court on the date shown on your citation.
Note: There is a charge to use a debit or credit card. The Town does not receive this fee. If you want to pay over the phone, you can reduce the fee by asking to pay be electronic check. Our vendor charges much less for this option.
If you choose to pay the fine before court, please bring your copy of the citation with you. If mailing in your fine, be sure to sign and date the back of your copy of the citation and include with your check or money order. If you do not sign the back of the ticket, you are not eligible for an amended charge, which lowers the points on your driver’s license.
If your citation does not have a fine amount listed, you must appear in court on the date written on your ticket.
It is possible to set up a payment plan if you are unable to pay the entire fine before the court date listed on the citation. If you have made arrangements with the Judge for a payment plan, it is critical that you pay the installment on or before the court date for that month. If you cannot make a payment, you are required to appear in court.
Where do I make a payment or appear for court?
You will come to Garden City Town Hall to make payments and for court. You can also mail a payment (see the FAQs below for more information).
What forms of payment are accepted?
Cash, check, money order, certified check or credit/debit card. We process cards through the State of Colorado, and the State includes a processing fee that goes to the State. For example, a $150.00 payment currently has an additional fee of $4.14, for a total charge of $154.14. The fee varies based on the charge.
Do I have to pay in person?
No. You can call with a credit/debit card or mail a payment. Please do not mail cash. If you use a money order, keep the receipt for tracking purposes. You will receive a receipt in the mail. If you do not receive one within a week, please call to confirm we’ve received your payment. If court is getting close, it would be a good idea to call with a debit/credit card or come to the Town Hall in person.
I’m on a payment plan. When do I need to pay my next installment?
Payments must be made monthly before the next court date. See the schedule above for court dates through 2017.
What happens if I don’t pay the fine or show up in court?
The first time this happens, you will be charged a fee for Failure to Appear, plus fees to set up another payment plan, and you will be required to appear at the next court date. If you don’t show up after that, a bench warrant will be issued. While you may be able to get away with not appearing or paying, eventually you will be arrested and/or an Outstanding Judgement Warrant will be issued, and you will not be able to renew your license or get a license in another state without paying the accumulated fines and fees.
Does Garden City make a lot of money from traffic fines and code enforcement citations?
Law enforcement issues citations to encourage safe driving. Code enforcement ensures that Garden City is a safe and clean place to live and do business. The cost of law and code enforcement far outweighs any revenue generated from citations.
